Well, it seems that the kiddies can get back out their writing tablets and pens or crayons to post their letters and lists off to Santa again this year. The North Pole, Alaska post office will be taking those letters after all.

Amid complaints of security, child safety, burdening labor costs, and identity concerns, the Postal Service wanted to discontinue the "letters to Santa" program that had been inundating the post office at North Pole, Alaska with hundreds of thousands of letters to Santa from children all around the globe.

The people of the small town in Alaska were upset over the Postal Service's decision to cut the program and voiced their opinion to their Alaskan Senate Delegation and received backing support from both Democrats and Republicans on the issue. The little town of North Pole , Alaska is very proud of the Christmas-time implications of its name where tourists can get their letters hand-stamped with the North Pole stamp.

The program came under fire when it was discovered that a volunteer in Maryland who was working on the program sorting through letters in preparation of answering them, was a registered sex offender. Luckily, the offender was taken off the program before any letters could be answered. But, the red flag brought the issue of so many names and addresses of young children being publicized too freely.

However, the Postal Service has come up with a plan now that will keep names and addresses private and still allow the children and the small town of North Pole, Alaska to keep their little bit of Christmas the tradition that it has been for several years now. Parents can now feel safe in allowing their children to write and receive an answer to their letters to Santa Claus. Children can write Santa Claus at this address:

1 Santa Claus Lane, North Pole , AK 99705

May everyone have a wonderful and safe Christmas this year.
