At Home 3D Television; Not so Futuristic Anymore?

There are probably very few movie buffs that haven't been to the theatre lately to catch the latest in 3-Dimenional hilarity or horror---whichever may be your cup-a-tea'. I, personally, load up the grandkids and go for the cartoons. So far I've seen UP, Coraline, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Ice Age, Bolt----and a few I have already forgotten the names. I'm certainly looking forward to the new 3D version of "A Christmas Carol". I think I love the 3D cartoons as much, if not more, than the kids do. The only issue I have with 3D movies is the funny looking glasses you have to wear. Although, they have improved since the cardboard/plastic versions; they still aren't all that convenient.
Costs for these sets may run from $3000 for the smaller sizes to $12000 for the really big screens, and more than likely the quality will not be all that great for the first year or so. We all know what it is like when a new product makes its dbut. But as with all technology---it just keeps getting better and better. I think I will probably wait a few years for the prices to come down and the quality to go up and just continue to do all my 3D viewing at the theatre for the time being.
Panasonic and Sony have shown their latest HD 3D endeavors at this week's electronic show and plan to have their first models on the market by 2010. Movies and games will probably be their first priorities. Toshiba Corp. is another competitor that has slated a new TV to go on sale later this year in Japan for the hefty sum of $11,000. Other brands looking to corner a section of the market are South Korea's Samsung Electronics and Hyundai who have already launched 3D TV's, but with lower specifications. Sharp plans to wait for more content variety and TV broadcasts before making its debut to the viewing public, but you can bet they are working fast and furious behind the scenes to keep up with the competition in technologies.
I suggest you do a little research and check out some product reviews before deciding on which set you will be having delivered to your living or family room in the very near future. Shop around for good deals, but pay for quality if that's what it takes---you will probably be happier in the long run.

It's amazing how fast time change, huh? I remember everyone being excited about watching Jaws in 3-D and having to wear those blue and red glasses. :-)Jaws scared me when it wasn't in 3D!!
