Mothers Of May

The lines on her face, why did I never notice before?
Does she move more slowly as she crosses the floor?

The gray in her hair; was it there yesterday?
When she last came to visit, did I ask her to stay?

How many times did I call her this week?
Just to see how she was and hear her voice speak?

Did I tell her I love her and show her I care?
How can I repay her for the times she was there?

The bright light in her eyes shows me I may have done,
when I gave her her very first baby grandson.

She became a Mother-generations of three,
before the angels in Heaven from her pain set her free.

In my heart she will always my Mother stay,
and join the ranks of all Mother's of May.

And with this Mother's Day as I have for twenty-one years done,
I will brush away the dirt and place her favorite roses on her grave stone.

Very beautiful and heartfelt poem Sandra, this is a difficult time for me every mothers day since she passed away. I miss her so. I can still see the light in her eyes and the beauty of her soul in my mind. I'm sure she is still with me. This was a wonderful tribute to your mother...and I love the message. Well done...Your fan, and friend......Gary

Thanks, Gary. I think this was a repeat--happens to me quite often. But that's ok--I can use all the support I can get.

I like your introduction Sandra when you describe your mother moving slower, and her hair turning  gray. It explains the feeling I have, that mothers are often taken for granted, they are always there and sometimes the fact that they are changing and getting older goes unnoticed, until they're old. It's at that point we realize we've become our mothers, and we have assumed their role so to speak. My mom is a wonderful mother, my closest friend, but I always try to remember she was a woman first. Thanks for sharing your beautiful poem with us.

Thanks so much, Brianna, for your wonderful sentiment. When we are young, it is so easy to take our elders for granted and feel as though we will never reach that point in our lives ourselves. But yes, here we are and now we become the slow moving mothers with gray in our hair.  thanks for reading and commenting.

Great poem for mother's day mom. we all miss grandma even if we only got to see her for the holidays. but they are always in bedded in my memory of her being a strong out going woman. Just as McKinley and the girls will always think of you. I hope that they will be able to see you for many more mother's days to come. Grandma would be very proud of you. We love you very much , happy mother's day... your son Bob...

Sandra,

Well done. Simple yet unexpected twists here and there. Also it hits the heart sack just right to get those tears flowing. I like it!

P.S.

Don't get lazy on me. Get those books out there. The world needs your heart-felt voice. Peace!

Thanks so much, Jeff. Your opinion means so much to me.
Have a wonderful day.

P.S. I'm writing this while lounging around at the Clarion Hotel at my book signing (which is tomorrow). This afternoon I can relax for awhile.
