The following excerpt from a newspaper in the UK slipped through my spam-blocker and erroneously ended up in my inbox. I thought it might be of interest to some of you and that you might find some viable debate material. It by no means reflects my own opinions and beliefs-I will voice them at the end of the excerpt. Please don't shoot the messenger, but feel free to voice any opinions that you have yourself-no four-letter expletives, please.

The Daily Mail ( UK ) wrote this editorial about Obama on
1/6/2009. (confirmation, Google " London Daily Mail Obama's Victory")
Obama's Victory-A British View
A victory for the hysterical Oprah Winfrey, the mad racist preacher Jeremiah Wright, the US mainstream media who abandoned any sense of objectivity long ago, Europeans who despise America largely because they depend on her, comics who claim to be dangerous and fearless but would not dare attack genuinely powerful special interest groups. A victory for Obama-worshippers everywhere.
A victory for the cult of the cult. A man who has done little with his life but has written about his achievements as if he had found the cure for cancer in between winning a marathon and building a nuclear reactor with his teeth. Victory for style over substance, hyperbole over history, rabble-raising over reality. A victory for Hollywood, the most dysfunctional community in the world. Victory for Streisand, Spielberg, Soros, Moore, and Sarandon.
Victory for those who prefer welfare to will and interference to independence. For those who settle for group think and herd mentality rather than those who fight for individual initiative and the right to be out of step with meager political fashion. Victory for a man who is no friend of freedom. He and his people have already stated that media has to be controlled so as to be balanced, without realizing the extraordinary irony within that statement.
Like most liberal zealots, the Obama worshippers constantly speak of Fox and.
Limbaugh, when the vast bulk of television stations and newspapers are drastically liberal and anti-conservative. Senior Democrat Chuck Schumer said that just as pornography should be censored, so should talk radio. In other words, one of the few free and open means of popular expression may well be cornered and beaten by bullies who even in triumph cannot tolerate any criticism and opposition
A victory for those who believe the state is better qualified to raise children than the family, for those who prefer teachers' unions to teaching and for those who are naively convinced that if the West is sufficiently weak towards its enemies, war and terror will dissolve as quickly as the tears on the face of a leftist celebrity. A victory for social democracy even after most of Europe has come to the painful conclusion that social democracy leads to mediocrity, failure, unemployment, inflation, higher taxes and economic stagnation. A victory for intrusive lawyers, banal sentimentalists, social extremists and urban snobs.
Congratulations America !
Guilty as charged. Watch as our bright shinning star tarnishes and falls to chaos and mediocracy.

I don't think the disgruntled few are trying very hard to give Obama the benefit of a doubt. This particular media clip still rants and raves on his race and his father's religious inclinations. Neither of which will have much bearing on his actions as President of the United States.
It also falls back on Obama's inexperience as though he should have been born with the Presidential Seal embedded in his forehead to qualify---" A man who has done little with his life, but has writtenBlah, Blah, Blah.
One count I can't in all honesty disagree with----".. Hollywood, the most dysfunctional community in the world." Hollywood does have its problems, but even it has produced at least one decent President. I don't know much about California's governor, but I haven't read any impeachment articles about him lately. Hollywood just has more money than it knows what to do with-there could be one good place for Obama to focus his "share the wealth" ideals.
Obama may not be as experienced' as say, McCain, but I'm afraid it is going to take a lot more than experience-especially the type McCain has-to bring our country out of the mess we have all let it get into. Roosevelt's policies didn't take place overnight when in the 1930's he faced much the same dilemma that Obama faces in creating new jobs and turning around a failing economy.
The above statement that this is " Victory for those who prefer welfare to will and interference to independence. For those who settle for group think and herd mentality rather than those who fight for individual initiative and the right to be out of step with meager political fashion." to me is a total affront to the American People!
And as far as free speech and talk radio' being censored, I doubt that will be one of Obama's bigger concerns. We all saw and heard more mud-slinging (from both sides) during this last year's campaign than any I ever remember. There didn't seem to be any broken bones and everyone just wiped off the mud and went on about the business of getting elected. A little constructive criticism never hurt anybody.
The final paragraph of the excerpt doesn't really deserve a comment-this all came about over the last eight years-Need I Say More?
In closing I hope I didn't step on too many sensitive toes. If so, fire away-the ball is in your court.
God Bless All and Happy Valentine's Day

Top-level comments on this article: (5 total)Thanks for showing that, its an interesting piece! The Daily Mail are well known in the UK for being extremely opinionated, and being anti-immigration to the point of almost appearing racist at times. They present the article you quoted as a British view, which technically it is, but its far from a widespread view here in Britain - most of us are extremely happy that Obama won the election (happy for the people of America, but also happy for the people of the wider world who will benefit too).Even our politicians seem to be fawning over him quite a lot, and seem to be thinking "What Would Obama Do?" when trying to make decisions..... quite comical at times ;-)The general mood here, as best I can measure it, is one of relieved optimism. Lets hope Obama can deliver the goods! After reading some other views, you are right. This one article covers very little of the over-all opinion of foreign countries. Thanks for reading and commenting, Ben.Sandra
Sandra more on the sorry state of this nation and the world. we live in today. Thanks for writing. Best Wishes. Thanks, Robert. I wish we could write and read only good things happening all around the globe, but I guess that won't happen in our (or anyone's) life time.Take care and the best to you also.Sandra
Sandra,Oh I do love the debate! Excellent article!I am concerned about socialized medicine, however, and just posted an article on what it can do for America. Having lived in Canada for 16 years of my adult life, I am well-versed on the subject and speak from experience. And I would be remiss not to mention that while abortion may be legal and the choice of the woman, why should my taxes pay for it? Didn't President Obama lift the ban on federal funding of abortions last week?Thank you, Nancy. I'm afraid our taxes are going to be paying for a lot of things that we don't personally agree with, but more than likely it would have happened no matter who was put into office. As Americans, we are in deep _______ and climbing out isn't going to be easy. Thanks for reading and commenting. I'll have to read your article on socialized medicine.Sandra
Hi Sandra, thanks for sharing this. Very interesting. What a world we live in. harshness on both ends of the spectrum. I have no problem with opinion sharing, I do it all the time, :-), but what I hate is the mean tone and voice in which it is done. Morally, that make a person no different than the one they are bashing.Another gret job, you are on a roll. BTW, just bought Amos Jakey, it arrived 2 days ago. I am looking forward to the read. Blessings to you! TeresaThank you so much, Teresa. And double thanks for ordering my book. I hope you like it. My second one, Nicolina, is the sequel to Amos Jakey and picks up where AJ leaves off. Again, thanks so much for ordering my book; it makes my heart happy when someone tells me that, and right now we can use a little happiness here in Arkansas.Sandra
I am with you on this Sandra. To me, the Brits don't really have a steadfast opinion, it sort of changes with the wind. If McCain would have been elected, they would have said something about that as well. The media that focuses on this type of negative editorialism, just shows me what a racist, paper that really is, also, the UK doesn't know the meaning of being politically correct. I agree with what you said about letting Obama "prove" himself and give him the opportunity to do so. Although he is young, I have to say I am impressed with what he is trying to do, and I believe he is sincere in his endevors. I wish my president luck.....he has stepped into a can of worms that was underway way before he came to office. I wrote and article about Him, I think is is called Obama and Biden, The right choice? I support him all the way, at least until he proves me wrong, I do expect mistakes, but am also willing to give this young president a "learning curve"! Thanks for sharing this with us, and as usual, I like your work....your friend in pen, and fan.....GaryThanks so much, Gary for reading and commenting on this article.Have a good week. I'm still on generator power and we have just begun some cleanup so I'm not spending much time on the computer.Best wishes.Sandra
