2009--Where are we Headed--A Year of Great Change?

If you're looking for predictions, the writing is on the wall. 2009 may be looking at a worldwide economic collapse and if so, we might should be mounting impenetrable shutters on our windows and stockpiling guns and ammunition. This may be a year that makes the Great Depression look like a walk-in-the-park. That's just the other-side-of-coin; my prediction is that we will have it tough for the first half of the year, but Americans are a strong people with an insurmountable will to survive. With a great faith in our God, and ourselves we will turn our problems around and not with the drastic measures of savages.
What will President Obama do for our country in 2009? What do I think he will do for, or bring to our country?----He will bring us together as a unit-not individuals of black, white, Indian, Hispanic, etc., etc.,---a hand-sown patchwork quilt of great beauty. He will help us to work together for the good of the country instead of concentrating on what I need, what I want. He will help to create new jobs that will get the people back in their homes and back on their feet.
Affordable healthcare is another issue that Obama will be facing, but we may not see him make any front-page changes right away. This is only because of the more pressing issues of our soldiers dying in Iraq, building schools, and exploring new forms of energy-all of these will create new jobs. Healthcare reform will take more time and money to generate a real and true fix. I predict that it will happen, but it will take time.
Consumer electronics which helped the electronics industry to keep its head above water during the ending months of 2008 will continue to lead the market in 2009. By that I predict that new innovations in Iphones, laptops, digital cameras, flat-screen TVs, and so on will lead the pack in making great leaps in the coming new year months. And we all know that the automotive industry will be leaving no rocks unturned to come up with newer and better technologies for fuel-efficient vehicles for the New Year. One grave issue that they absolutely must conquer is the low quality of the American-made vehicles. Our American workers have always wanted more money for less work and poorer quality. It is a must that they learn to take pride in what they produce and win back the American consumer.
As far as resolutions, I don't make them--they are just something that goes in one Year and out the other.
2009 just by its dire beginning could very well be our banner year. We know where we're heading and with a little effort from each and every one of us, we could make it just that- A Year of Great Change.
I predict there will be much praying.

More commentsGreat article, Sandra. Someone told me a few months ago about a cruise line that ran a ship in the Hawaiian Islands - from island to island. It folded after a short time because most of the employees were from the US and sadly didn't care about the quality of their customer service. Doing things well the first time is an area many here have become lax. As for Obama's changes - I hope you are right. I have already heard of contracts that have been cancelled with one company (from a friend who is an engineer with the company) because of the increased taxes. The company that had requested the work is taking Obama at his word. Unfortunately, this may lead to some lay offs in a company that has not had to resort to that action in the past. The company wanting the work done will be going overseas for their future needs. I pray for our nation, our future President and outgoing President and hope for the best. I am not pessimistic because I know WHO is in control of it all. But I don't think this is the best of times for our nation either.Thanks so much, Lorrie. I have spent many years working for several different companies which closed down and moved their manufacturing over-seas---not realizing that for lower wages, they were getting even poorer guality. That is probably the reasoning behind Americans losing interest in producing quality products here, because so many companies were moving over-seas. Many years ago Zenith television was about the best on the market. It moved to Mexico and now (I'm not even sure they still make them) they are the very worst. Same with batteries. And look at all the toy recalls from China. The last company I worked for has a plant in China. The products they were sending to America were unbelievable poor. No, this isn't the best time for our country, and change may not come soon.We have to pray and hope for the best.God bless and have a great new year.Sandra
Hi Sandra, an excellent article. I am not as optimistic as you, but I hope and pray that you are right and I am wrong. You opened up a keg of dynamite I imagine about the unions. But even if you did, I'm with you 100% on it. Early on, many companies exploited labor and abused them. Unions did a noble work to stop that. But now, the unions are the abusive and greedy ones. They taught their followers to expect big money for little work and simply killed the goose who laid the golden eggs.That's right, Joel. I spoke from experience (mine only, maybe). I lived up North where you didn't work unless you belonged to the Union and paid your dues. Behind the scenes I saw first hand what the Union was doing to us. I was young, but I knew rats when I saw them. I don't blame the Union (as an organization), I blame the greedy men who held the positions to help the people they were selling out.And yes, I too, hope and pray that I am right about the feelings I have for our future as a nation.God Bless and may your year bring you the best.Sandra

Geeeze you a smart lady, you know your stuff...wow, I am impressed. I like the part where you said, goes in one year and out the other. Your article is impressing !! I agree with your article though, even though I am Canadian, I still think things are going to get worse first before they get better. Let's just PRAY that they don't get as bad as they could get. I always give God credit for what is in my heart and for some reason my heart is bursting with faith in Obama. But our faith is to be in God, not Obama, but God may have been making your heart to have faith in Obama.....If I were American I would have voted for him as well. I just thought that the difference between Obama and the other man would have been a bigger difference. Meaning, 10% for the other and 90% for Obama on votes. I think some unions are still needed. If the union is just trying to collect membership dues, and not help a member when they have a problem, the people should do away with their union.I can't honestly say all Unions are not good; It was many years ago that I belonged to a Union. The ones I belonged to did help in some ways, but were more out for themselves than the people that they represented. They used money that they earned from due-payers to spend on personal gain. After leaving the North, then eventually leaving Texas, I moved back to Arkansas and never joined another Union.Thanks for reading and commenting. I suspect this quote from your article is correct "With a great faith in our God, and ourselves we will turn our problems around" yet I add that is if we truly implement what we believe, which is God's teachings.
