Time to Stop Beating the Dead Horse!

My Books and Articles

Thinking that now the election is well past and thrashing the pros and cons will gain us nothing, I had hoped we could move on to more mundane issues. The election was no more than it was-no great revelation, no bright star in the east, no boon to a repressed civilization-two men running a race, opening their private lives for our inspection, sharing their beliefs and plans to fix our country's problems. And it all boils down to one thing and one thing only-the best man wins.

This election may or may not have truly been a ‘first'; for who can honestly prove the true heritage of any of our former Presidents? And for that matter, most of our own heritage? I, for one, don't mind that I'm not purely Caucasian, not descended from a long line of pure Catholic or Jewish ancestors. I am proud of what little true American heritage that I can boast, but I certainly don't let it rule my life or my vote. Could it be time to stop beating the dead horse????

Just for awhile can we get away from the issues of a Black, White, or Brown leader, and discuss or debate the issues that are going to make or break our country. Stores and manufacturing facilities are closing by the thousands. Will this help the small businessman-ie., ‘Joe the Plumber'? Jobs are being lost on a daily basis. And when the long lines at the unemployment office reach out the door and down the sidewalk, color won't be an issue, religion won't be an issue. People, all people, will be facing a dark and unknown future. Is this not an issue? Am I worrying over nothing?  Does anyone see a light at the end of this tunnel?????

We need a quick and firm resolution to the war in Iraq and the continuing threats from Iran, India, China and Russia. We are spending tens of millions of dollars per day to support the war in Iraq, not to mention lost lives. Some experts say we can't get out now without far-reaching repercussions. That may or may not be true, but can we afford the repercussions that our country is suffering as we continue the struggle alone? The Iraqis don't seem to be spending their own monies to improve their situation. Possibly our withdrawal now would force them to start fending for themselves?????

Another issue up for debate is the possible government regulation of our retirement funds. Is this something we would want? Would the benefits to the individual outweigh the benefits to a spend-thirsty government? Do we want the government controlling our last income in life????

The newspapers and economic reviews of today touting our devastating economic woes have put many more gray hairs in this old head than the issue of Obama's black and Islamic heritage. It is time to move on. Time to grapple with the real issues facing us and time to ask, "what we can do for our country."

I think this is very true. I also think that Barrack Obama thinks the same and that real issues are going to be tackled in the next few years. I believe a new era is starting.

I agree, it's time to place the focus where it needs to be and take action in dealing with the problems the U.S. is facing.

Nice article Sandra...great points. I agree about the grey hairs coming from reading the news. My advice for everyone is to turn off the news for a few days so that you can catch your breath!

Thanks for putting into words what we are feeling around my house. My husband wrote an essay on heritage and it says alot along the lines of what you have written here Sandra. I think the hose has been dead for a long time. we need to focus on the issues that are vital to all of us no matter what color we are . Health care , retirement, jobs dont know colors. Good job sandra.
