Is The World Ready for a Defenseless Superpower?....are we ready to become one?

How many politicians have promised us that if elected, they would rid the world of the great Nuclear' threat? How long have we waited for this to happen? The United States began its research into creating an atomic bomb in 1939. Experiments with neutrons which began as early as 1934 culminated in the invention of the first nuclear reactor in 1942. Now in 2008 the build-up of nuclear weapons continues to threaten the very existence of our planet.

Barack Hussein Obama has promised us again to fight against all build-up of nuclear weapons in all countries. But he has also promised, along with cutting monetary waste, to cut our own defense spending and that he will end a war that he has been against from the beginning. I am all for ending a war that we should never have been involved in in the first place; but through the acts of cowardly terrorists and Holy War' advocates, we were forced to make a stand. A mess has been created that will take much more than the idle promises of a hopeful politician to clean up. Eliminate the need for oil and only then will the greed to control Iraq become less futile.

Turning the United States into the only superpower with no defenses is absolutely atrocious! Cut our defenses and we will soon have to learn Chinese, or Korean, or Mewati as our predominate language and eat rice as our main course. We may as well begin research in the Muslim or Islamic religion while we're at it. Forget the words Freedom' and Home of the Brave', because we are the one country that most foreign countries would love to see fall on its collective face!

I'm not proud of some of the things we do and some of the people who have held our highest office, but I do love America and what most Americans stand for. And like most, I want to see world peace, but humans are humans and have been fighting to be number one since the dawn of man. We should worry more about our own country and making sure we can keep it safe and less about trying to be the rhino that stamps out every little fire that pops up around the world. Defense is what we should work toward-and less aggression. Spend more on tightening up our own borders and there would be fewer reasons to go outside them to track down terrorists-even our youngest school children know what countries produce terrorists. We are only fooling ourselves with our false pride in being considered a country with open arms' to all.

I agree with fighting against Nuclear Weapons buildup and I agree with cutting wasteful spending, but I don't feel comfortable voting for someone who wishes to cut our defenses. God Bless America , One Nation, Under God-should always remain our motto.

Sandra, Respectfully. If you really love America as you say, you would not have made a disparaging, racist comment by using Barack Obama's middle name to make your point. You did that like others to flame the fires by suggesting that he is Muslim. That comment alone is un-American and uncalled for regardless of your views!

Actually, racism was the farthest thing from my mind. I just assumed everyone knew his middle name--why should he want to keep it a secret; I doubt there is any relationship there. Of course, I hated my middle name until well into adulthood--which by the way, is Ernestine. Also, I did not suggest he is Muslim--I understand that he is attending or is a member of the Church of Christ. And I didn't think that I implied that our religion would change because of any Muslim ties that he has or doesn't have. I thought I was saying that as a defenseless country, who knows under what or whose control we may end up under. I appreciate your opinion and your views all the same. Thanks and may the best 'man' or 'woman' win. SEG

Excellent article my Dear. I believe you do love America, as much as I do, as much as many of us do. Is it perfect ? No, but it's still the best on this planet. To have a defensless nation is to invite trouble, with open arms and our pants down. Barack Hussein Obama wants to be President, well a lot of people are going to have to get use to his middle name being used. It's what we do here in America, Every President has his middle name known. I find it rather interesting the only people I've heard get upset or inflamed about it are those that hate when it is used. Again, Sandra, I applaud your view on keeping America strong, safe and free.

Thank you very much, Michael. I appreciate that you understood what I was trying to say. Defense of our country is my main concern--not the race, color, religion, gender, or ethnic background of the people running for the Presidency. I just want to keep our country free to practice what we wish, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, and be tolerant of people who do not agree with all of our beliefs. SEG

This article is very disturbing to me. To suggest that using Obama's middle name was innocent or not racially motivated does not seem plausible. I do not hear anyone calling John McCain by his middle name. I have not heard anyone calling Hillary Clinton by her middle name. I did not hear anyone calling Mike Hugglebee by his middle name. You say that you assumed everyone knows his middle name and it was not politically or racially motivated. What people DO KNOW is that those who are trying to detrail his candidacy have used his middle name and other slanderous comments that are derogatory and racially insensitive. You say you are tolerant, but I have a hard time trusting that. I noticed that Mr Kocis also called him by his middle and justified it as well. No, this is not what we do here in America. Although we say we are not racist or bigoted, I am afraid politically motivated dirty tricks will continue to go on as long as Barack Obama is a candidate for President.

Sandra, PS. I am sure that you and Michael are aware that John McCain recently terminated his association with a campaign worker over the issue of mentioning the middle name of Mr. Obama as a way of linking him to the Muslim community and playing to the fears of voters!

Sandra, I was just made aware that on Friday, US Republican Representative from Iowa, Steve King gave a radio interview regarding his view on national defense and the Obama campaign. He said the following: "Additionally, his (Obama) middle name (Hussein) does matter," King said. "It matters because they (Islamic radicals) read a meaning into that in the rest of the world. That has a special meaning to them. They will be dancing in the streets because of his middle name. They will be dancing in the streets because of who his father was and because of his posture that says: Pull out of the Middle East and pull out of this conflict." Does this rhetoric sound familiar? It should because it reflects the tenor of your article. Is this the America you love?

Once again, I will say, I did not use Obama's middle name as a racist remark and I'm sorry that it came across that way. I am a Democrat and will vote Democratically no matter what the person's middle name is--it could be 'Laden' for all I care. His first name is his first name, his middle is his middle, his last is his last--I assume that is what is on his birth certificate and what his parents gave him. What it means to the rest of the world is of little or no concern to me--terrorists will 'dance in the streets' no matter what excuse they can come up with and they would try to destroy us whether Obama or Clinton or McCain or Mother Tereasa or Mickey Mouse becomes President. Read the article---don't presume to read my mind. My only concern is what plans these politicians have for us once they are in office! SEG

Sandra, I reread this article and some of your other political articles. I made an assumption that I should not have made. I truly apologize for not trusting you and giving you the benefit of the doubt. It was wrong and I regret my haste in reacting. Be well.

Thank you, James. I have been praying about this. I was so afraid that I could have, subconciously, used Obama's middle name in a racist context. But after continuous thought and prayer, I could not find in myself any thoughts against the man personally. If he wins the democratic nomination, then, as a democrat, I will back him. I have never considered myself racist in any form as I have many friends of different color, ethic, religious, and sexual preference backgrounds and would never do or say anything (intentionally) to slight anyone. Sometimes, it isn't easy to state your opinion--strongly--and keep your heart filled only with feelings of which God would approve. Continue to stand up for what you believe in and let your voice be heard. SEG

Franklin D. Roosevelt..... Delano that is..........I Know his middle name. I guess I am a white man who hates white people because I used the middle name of a white man. A great article and I agree with all of it!

Thanks, Mr. Keith, for your comments. A middle name is no more than what the bearer makes it. And the fact of Obama's nor Hillary's middle names will not make or break them as Presidential candidates unless they allow it to happen. Politicians are politicians and they are going to do and say whatever it takes to get them into office--'true colors' are seldom seen before the end. SEG

You stirred up the pot a bit there, didn't you, Sandra...and we can cut defense spending considerably while improving the internal security of the country. It just requires a tightly focused set of priorities that, as you say, are all about defense and not about agression, invasion or occupation outside of American borders. I'm not saying that Obama can or will make that happen, but he's on the right track, I think. Thanks for posting your views on this, Rob

I guess I should stay out of politics all together---they are not really my forte.  I don't understand them well enough to argue them with any amount of intelligence.  It just worries me when I think that we may do be concerned enough about protecting ourselves as much as we worry about policing the rest of the world.  I didn't mean to stir up any 'racial' pots because the last thing I am is racist.  I love our country and I pray to God that the best 'man' wins this election--but that will be found out as an after fact---sadly.
Thanks for reading and commenting.  Sorry I didn't rate that well.  Will try harder next time or stick to only a grandma's point of view.
