Where Would 'Christ-mas' be without 'Christ'?

So they are trying to take ‘Christ' from Christmas and it is no longer kosher to say ‘Merry Christmas'; we are now required to say ‘Happy Holidays'.   It seems that we are infringing on the rights of others when hang our holiday greetings that proclaim ‘Merry Christmas' and ‘Happy Birthday, Christ'.  But what of our rights as Christians?  How many complaints have we heard from Christians that they don't want to see the words ‘Happy Hanukkah' or ‘Yom Tov' or ‘Happy Nirvana Day' on cards and banners? Most Americans and Christians feel compelled to tolerance when it comes to other religious sects practicing their beliefs.  Why can't other religions or atheists allow us the rights to practice our beliefs as Christians?  I for one want to hang banners from my front porch proclaiming my birthday wishes for the Christ Child.  I still love to greet people with the words, "Merry Christmas"!  Christmas has been and always will be my favorite holiday.  Christmas brings out the best in everyone, the spirit of giving and loving and forgiving.

Historians may quibble about the exact date of Christ's birthday, but hey, why not celebrate His birth every day just so we get it right?  The giving and loving spirit would do well to last the whole year anyway.  Presents could be an act of kindness, a kind word, or just a smile-things that could be passed from person to person as the good cheer spreads throughout the world.

Christmas can be found in the face of a child when the eyes light up to match the bright lights on the houses and Christmas trees or when Santa Claus appears in a shopping mall.

Christmas is all about giving and loving and treating your fellow man with a lasting kindness that one small baby grew up to spread through the ages.  He didn't ask us to pick a day to celebrate His birth just once a year-He asks us to celebrate his teachings every day and if we choose to celebrate His birthday, it should be our rights as Christians to celebrate His birth, life, and death in the way we choose.  To us our Christ Child is very special and He earned a special day in all our hearts.

I say to you all, "Merry Christmas", "Happy Hanukkah", or "Happy Holidays"---whichever you prefer---I wish you all the very best and may your God be with you.

Well Sandra it is what many Christians understand as a sign of this age and of our times. That is not to say anything other then what was said. However, I tend to think it is what it is because we in America, yes, we who profess to be "Christians" vote the people in who do not believe as we and are actually changing the entire culture and hertitage of this nation and in fact the world. Could it be that is why we are hated as much as we are? In fact they will condemn someone, call them racist and abuse someone with every verbal assult known to discredit the truth. Think not then take a ride through some of "our" major cities and you will know exactly what I am talking to. We, were a Christian nation founded on Judeo / Christians beliefs. That word was "were" and they key word here is "were". Perhaps, people will wake up to the fact that the smiling face you vote for perhaps does not hold your same values or beliefs and ideology as you, even though they may profess it and you just don;t know it becuase you haven't bothered to find out? You know the wolf in sheeps clothing type? Christmas has now become a retailers holiday except for true believers. Sadly, I find we have fallen into the same allure and we propogate the situation. No Sandra you won't find many "Christians" standing up because in my opinion ymany are not Christian by word only, garments, vestments or position it is in the deed. Respectfully and best wishes RTM Oh, and Merry Christmas.

hi sandra, i second your expressions! this year, i won't be forced to join into the commercialism i've always disliked, as my divorce has limited my money situation. this year, my kids will get love for christmas, and hopefully, as they grow and enjoy their own holidays with their own families, they will remember this christmas as that of love and caring for each other. thanks for a beautiful article, best regards and merry christmas, sue thom

Hi Sandra! It surely is an interesting point. Here is Britain christmass os on TV and in media all about fun and family etc. not about Christ of course. But I didn't sense that non-Christians would mind if you wish them "merry christmas". Among others, I wished merry christmas to at elast one jewish friend and one muslim, because I seid it almost automatically, I though about it few seconds later. But neither of them did mind. :)
