The New Year's Resolution

My Books and Articles
It’s one-forty in the morning and I can’t sleep. I lie there awake for a few more minutes listening to the night sounds coming from the other side of our king-sized bed---the loud macho snoring from my husband and the softer baby-bear snores of my tiny grandson. I finally give up and hating to break the form of our perfect “capital H"---my grandson, naturally, sleeps cross-wise always giving me the business end (he seems to know who changes his diaper most often);---I roll out of bed and replace my body with a large pillow to keep the little booger from rolling off.
First of all I will list possibilities:
- Quit Smoking
- Quit Drinking
- Quit using four-letter Words
- Lose Weight
- Treat my Husband Better
- Treat the Kids Better
- Open
That brings us to Lose Weight. Now there’s a tricky one. I’m considered a big-boned person and the type of person who retains a lot of water, so would I really be considered over-weight? Probably not. Now, Treat my Husband Better, here’s another one that kind of falls into a gray area. He doesn’t complain, so he probably doesn’t even know there is better treatment out there. My guess is that we better just leave well enough alone. And that brings up another questionable resolution---Treat the Kids Better. By the time you get to my age, the kids are all grown and gone (except for the ones who come back bringing little clones with them that want to sleep with you---cross-wise!). Forget that one.
Well, now I have reached the end of my list and I’m starting to get sleepy. I’ve pretty much narrowed the list down to a manageable size and finally decided on the last and final resolution. This is probably one that we can all handle.
My New Year’s resolution for this year will be: Don’t Make Resolutions I Can’t Keep.
